The Story of Billiet
Billiet is a family business in the true sense of the word. It was founded by a young couple who ran it together. And today, over 90 years later, the company is still family-owned. In fact, the founder's grandson, Christoph Billiet, is now at the helm.
History
- 1932
Jenny Vanlaere opened a stove shop next to her husband Alberic Billiet's small factory. As people cooked on stoves at the time, she expanded her offering to include pots, cutlery, plates, glasses and all things related to cooking and dining.
- 1945
After the war, Jenny melted down a hidden stockpile of iron to make cooking pots, which she delivered by cargo bike to local shopkeepers. When the pots ran out, she began importing new ones through Amsterdam. And so Billiet began its journey as an importer and distributor.
- 1970
Alberic’s son Godfried visited a manufacturer of porcelain figures during his holiday in Italy. Back in Belgium, he sold the figurines using hand-drawn sketches and imported them himself.
- 1980
Godfried was a pioneer through and through. He was one of the first to travel to China to source tableware, which he transported back to Tielt by container, packed in straw.
- 2002
Billiet shifted its strategy and transformed from a general goods distributor into a brand-focused distributor. In line with this new direction, Billiet launched its own brand, Cosy&Trendy, in 2003.
- 2020
During the coronavirus pandemic, Billiet transformed its showroom into a shopping loft. The choice of a loft space suits Billiet perfectly: rooted in a rich history, but always looking ahead.
